O'Donoghue, Bernard
(1945- )
   Irish poet, born in County Cork, where his father was a farmer. His mother was from Manchester and spent some time there after his father died in 1962. He studied English at Lincoln College, Oxford, and graduated in 1968, then received a bachelor of philosophy in medieval English in 1971. He has spent most of his academic life at Oxford and is a fellow of Magdalen College, where he teaches medieval literature. In addition to his poetry, he is a critic of contemporary poetry, and his book Seamus Heaney and the Language of Poetry was published by Prentice Hall in 1994.
